Picture
Brainstorming #1  – How to Have More Participation in the Garden from ALL Gardeners:

  • Have more flexible scheduling work nights (ex: 5-7 on a Wed?)
  • To be very clear w/expectations for participants' requirements
  • Allow “honor system” –people who can’t join workdays complete their assigned tasks independently
  • Share bounty – make donations of produce etc. foodbank
  • Use it or lose it
  • Barter food/work
  • Reminders – sing up ahead
  • Childcare
  • New website
  • Posted work list
  • Report sheet
  • Potluck @ garden
  • Guest volunteers/sponsorship
  • Snacks during workday
  • Fee deposits $1000 maybe just $50
  • Check schedules before picking workdays
  • Rotating leadership of workdays
  • 3 hours/week-work committee
  • More kid stuff sand etc.
  • More fun less management
  • Talk to teachers to include kids in garden
  • Is garden lit for morning-evening hours?
Brainstorming #2 – How to improve communication among gardeners who speak different languages
  • Think about many communities – for example, Somali
  • Label tools multilingually with description of appropriate tools
  • Schedule consistent gatherings/activities to bring gardeners together
  • Make more child-safe (remove corners)
  • Make more child-friendly
  • Bring chickens
  • Mini garden directory
  • Language classes
  • Point person to translate
    • Volunteer (high schooler?)
  • Free plot for translate
  • Transform more lots into plots
  • Involve bilingual people
  • Kiddie garden plot
  • Bilingual people – coordinate availability during workdays
  • Advertise in Chelsea Record in all languages
  • Kiddie books in languages
  • Multiligual sign for garden
  • Community board – inside  + outside
  • Community beds for donating
  • Email ideas ask for feedback/lease it to the coordinators
  • Possibly encourage cooking + sharing garden parties
  • Potluck sharing culture/food languages etc….
