“SCARECROWS IN THE GARDEN”
(The Chelsea Community Garden, as a venue of the 9th Annual Chelsea Art Walk once again features whimsical folk art - our "Scarecrow in the Garden" exhibit featuring the imaginative work of our community: gardeners, school kids and artists. As old as agriculture itself, scarecrows are a practical way to keep fields and gardens safe from predators, especially birds.
We invite all interested artists young and old to submit their designs. Artists’ entries chosen will be displayed in the garden’s common areas. The gardeners’ creations will display in their individual plots.
Eligibilty: All interested Artists are eligible.
Deadline for Submissions: June 1, 2017

Please Include:
Photo if possible, prototype and description of your proposed scarecrow
Title, medium, dimensions, and price if for sale
Artist contact information: address, phone, email and website/blog if any
Brief artist biography
Sales/commission: There is no exhibition fee or commission. Artists are personally responsible for any specific publicity of their work at the exhibit and negotiation with potential buyers.
Selection Deadline: Selected applicants will be notified by June 7, 2015.
Basic Requirements for all Contributors:
* Selected pieces will be assigned a space in the garden’s common areas.
* Exhibitors are responsible for installation and removal of scarecrows.
* The garden will be open on Friday, June 16 for artist’s installation.
* Scarecrows can be set up any time after the season begins, upon arrangement.
* The design should try to include at least one part that moves (“to scare crows.”)
* Scarecrows must be designed so they do not block a significant amount of light
to surrounding garden plots or walkways.
The garden is surrounded by a chain link fence and locked, however please be aware that your work will be subject to any limitations connected with a locked, fenced city lot and New England’s late spring weather. Pieces cannot be insured by the Chelsea Community Garden or the Chelsea Art Walk.
Publicity: The Chelsea Art Walk will provide publicity.
