- When done using the water turn it off @ the spigot by the shed to avoid unnecessary pressure in the hose which burst it last year. Double check it when leaving the garden since pressure increases overnight when relatively less water is being used by the rest of the city. --- Forsythia and Lilac should be pruned after they bloom. Remove any dead or broken branches & about half of the old thick branches - cutting them to the ground. The newer, younger growth produces better flowers. --- Prune suckers from Peach, Cherry, & other fruit trees before they become well established.
- Transplant annual flowers you started early in April outdoors after May 20. --- Plant Gladiolus bulbs every two weeks through the end of June to ensure constant bloom. --- Dahlias should be planted so the roots are 5 inches deep. Mound the soil around them as they grow. --- When Tulips are at their peak, plant: Sweet Corn, Bush Beans & Leeks. --- When Lilacs are flowering, plant: Pole Beans, Squash & Pumpkins. --- After all danger of frost has passed and when Iris and Peonies bloom, plant: Tomato, Pepper, Eggplant, Melons, Cucumber & Lima Beans. --- Watch for wilting of newer transplants. Water close in to the stem until they become established. --- Go after those weeds.
