Quilt Raffle to Benefit the Garden's Senior Project's Efforts
One of our newest garden members, Angela, volunteered her extensive expertise to help with the garden's fundraising. She created a patchwork quilt for raffle at the 2nd Annual Open House, October 1, 2011. Members sold raffle tickets throughout the summer and we raised funds to support planned 2012 projects which will aide our senior gardeners: a shade shelter and installing a paved walkway around the handicapped-accessible beds.
Angela is a member of the Chelsea Senior Center's Quilting group "The Empty Spool Quilters". The group has been meeting weekly for many years now to sew quilts for babies in the Intensive Care Unit of the Boston Medical Center and other programs.
Thank you to Angela, and to gardener and artist Eveyln HInde who donated a lovely jadite necklace and a set of crystal rosary beds she made, and to Ricky's FlowerMart in Somerville, Mahoney's Garden Center and DeMoula's Market Basket for their gift certificate donations. The raffle was pulled at our OPEN HOUSE in the fall to the delight of many lucky and happy winners.
Thanks to everyone who helps to support the Chelsea Community Garden.
