Chelsea Senior Center Gardening Project May-October 2011
With a grant from the Chelsea Community Fund, we teamed up with the Chelsea Senior Center to offer 3 workshops on gardening and food production at the Senior Center. We helped prepare the soil and containers for their Roof Top garden. We reserved the tall handicapped beds in the garden for seniors. We grew vegetables in the new larger handicapped bed to bring to the folks at the Senior Center. Melissa Shook documented the 2011 seasons in the Community Garden and at the Senior Center in both video and photography. She produced 15 documentary videos which were shown on Chelsea Cable TV. A "Harvest Celebration" in October featured healthy treats donated by the Chelsea Wyndham, an exhibition of Melissa Shook's photography and our invited guest Patti Moreno, HGTV.com's "The Garden Girl.
Documentarian and Artist Melissa Shook
With the assistance from a grant from the Chelsea Cultural Council, photographer Melissa Shook continued the project she began in 2010 of photographing the gardeners and the gardening season. She spent the year at the Chelsea Senior Center, documenting all their "Healthy Chelsea" activities.
Chelsea Farmers Market - Saturdays - July - September
Gardeners volunteered to staff a booth at the new Chelsea Farmer's Market.
Saturday mornings from July to September, we would pick fresh herbs and flowers from our gardens and bring them to Market to show and tell stories about the Chelsea Community Garden.

CHELSEA GREENSPACE GARDEN PROJECTS 2011
Our gardeners assisted and took leadership roles in 2 Chelsea GreenSpace garden projects: the KaBOOM park and garden on Spruce St. and the Shanbaro garden project at Temple Emmanuel.
ROCA YOUTH STAR AND SOUP KITCHEN
ROCA YouthStar program had a garden bed for the first time. For many of the youth this was a first time gardening experience. The youth also volunteered for extra garden work days. Throughout the harvest season, gardeners donated their surplus to the ROCA Soup Kitchen.
