March 29, 2011 Second Membership Meeting
Tonight we had a "Preparing for Planting" workshop by Joe Rubin. He showed us how to mix potting soil, how to grow and transplant seedlings, and basics of getting started. We talked about children's activities. Alex Christmas demonstrated her home made recycled window box green houses she and her children have made, Elaine Cusick talked about the free workshops for kids at Home Depot, and Misty Flores told about the Terrarium workshop she attended and how it might work for kids. Folks signed up for their garden duties. Angela brought one of her quilts for show. She's working on a "green" quilt for our fundraising raffle. We discussed the fundraising raffle plans.
"Windowsill" Greenshouses
Alex Christmas has made windowsill greenhouses with her children this early spring. They've begun their seedlings in them. She showed us her technique to build them out of all recycled materials.
At tonight's meeting, folks signed up for the "Children's Activities" Committee to plan fun things and lessons for kids in the garden this season. Please contact Misty if you want to help on this.
